30 Days of Being Grateful: Day 14

Man, yesterday was a doozie!  Today, I am so incredibly grateful that we work from home because if we didn’t, we likely would be picking through the pieces of our burned out house.

We were eating lunch yesterday, and I kept hearing a popping sound.  It was just loud enough to make us want to investigate it.  It turns out the plug for our garbage disposal was shorting out under the sink and shooting out puffs flames and smoke!!!!!  We got everything out from under the sink that could catch fire like, oh you know, aerosol cans,  sponges, etc. and flipped the breaker, but it still didn’t stop.  So, Guitar Dude bravely unplugged it, and it finally stopped.  I called our landlord to let him know, and within an hour we had a brand new plug installed under the sink.  WHEW!

When something like that happens, you can’t help but think, “What if…?”  “What if we didn’t work from home?”  “What if we had both been in our offices where we couldn’t hear it?”  “What if it happened a day earlier while we weren’t home?”  I shudder to think what could’ve happened not just to our possessions, which can be replaced, but to our pets, as well.  The good Lord was with us yesterday, and for that I am incredibly grateful.

Air Switch

Grateful for a new one of these……….

By the way, have you ever heard of an air-activated switch?  Yesterday was the first time I’d heard of such a thing, but now I know that silver button on the counter top magically turns on the garbage disposal with……air.  Who knew!?
