Times are tight, but that doesn’t mean you can’t freshen things up around the house. All it takes is a little creative thinking to do add a few new touches to a room when you’re on a tight budget.
The other day while browsing the craft section, I found a box of these tiny beads in colors that perfectly matched our bedroom. I put them in my basket without any idea what to do with them. A few aisles later, I found some glassware, and this little puppy was born:
Jim says if we ever need a jar of rocks, we’re all stocked up. It’s not a jar. It’s a cruet, thankyouverymuch. How do I know this? Because the tag on the bottom told me. Now, what’s a cruet? A flat-bottomed vessel with a thin neck. Yep, this blog is educational, too.
Total cost for cruet filled with rocks: Under $5.
The idea of filling a jar with rocks inspired me. We’ve had one of those fancy olive oil bottles in the cupboard since we moved in. Olive oil is messy when it leaks. So I drained it, washed it, washed it again, and let it dry for two days. Then I filled it with a mixture of dry goods from a different cupboard, and it now it looks like this:
You can use any dry goods you have on-hand, or buy whatever you want to match your kitchen.
Total cost for this project: $.97 plus tax. I had to buy the split peas.
These are small things to set around the house, but even the small things can bring a smile when you walk into the room!

Way to be creative! Pretty!
