Gustavo’s Pizza in Dahlonega

Gustavo's Pizza in Dahlonega

Yes, I eat my pizza with a fork. You wanna fight about it?!?!

Yesterday, I got a hankering for pizza.  Being lactose intolerant does not lend well to eating pizza, but after reading several sites that spoke of those who are lactose intolerant being able to enjoy “most cheeses” I decided we were going to Gustavo’s Pizza here on the square in Dahlonega for pizza last night, and I enjoyed it so much that you’re getting a blog post two. days. in. a. row.  WOW!

Gustavo’s expanded their location, and the inside of the place has a nice, rustic feel.  The large windows offer a great view of the square.  A wide bar is at the center of the room, and the tables are spaced far enough apart that you’re not bumping elbows with someone when you get up.  We walked in and immediately parked our butts at the bar.  They have an excellent beer selection which is very important when it comes to pizza joints.  I highly recommend the Southern Tier Euro Trash Pilz which is what I enjoyed last night.  The bartender was well informed about the different draft beers they offer, and she was willing to give us a small taste of the ones that were new to us.

We ordered a pizza with pepperoni, sausage, onions, jalapenos, and *gasp* extra cheese.  I figured if I was going to do it, I might as well do it right.  When the pizza arrived, I was surprised that there was plenty of room on the bar for our pie, our plates, and our beers.  We dove right in, and the flavor was incredible.  The crust was done to perfection.  It was nice and thin with a perfectly browned bottom, so I think it’s safe to say they use a real pizza oven.  The jalapenos were fresh which is a sticking point of mine.  Most pizza places use jarred jalapenos, and the flavor just ain’t the same.  Fresh jalapenos are so crisp and flavorful in addition to the heat…. mmm…. sorry, I just drooled on myself.  I loved this pizza so much that I ate three slices (and four Lactaid pills!), and I am normally a one or maybe two slices kind of girl.  Never mind that it’s not healthy or lactose free.  Sometimes you just have to throw caution to the wind and live a little!

If you’re ever in the mood for an excellent pizza, Gustavo’s is the only place in town if you want to do it right!  I highly recommend it.
